Page under construction
I am going to use this page for items that are starting to be sent to me or I am uncovering that I am not certain about. Some things we have come to accept about the early years of Subbuteo clearly need challenging and I have done a bit of that on this website: some we need to discuss. I am a bit annoyed with myself as sometimes I buy bits and pieces and do not remember where they came from and suddenly I look closely and think 'what on earth is that'.
I initially put this to one side as a single player to file but recently I bought two card player collections, had to start a card player sort out snd looked at it again. My initial reaction was that someone had coloured a Derby player to use as a goal keeper as the shirt is clearly an outfield player's. However, examination under magnification and a scan shows the colour to be even and the finish of the shirt looks just the same as other cut out players. Opinions please.
I would also appreciate comments on the stripes of cut out teams- I don't have many so I initially though the Newcastle team I have was odd. Then last week a Stoke City player arrived just the same. Were the cut out stripes uneven and quite different to the press out players?
Also for this page:
I am going to move on at some point to the topic of collecting on the website. I started out thinking this would be mostly about how we archive and clean things but the more I see the more I think there is something different about collectors in unrecorded areas. I am sure in many collections, not just subbuteo, there are items that might look rather shabby but the collector knows this is something a bit special.
Does anyome have an extensive set of in card strips of players? Three points I would appreciate further information on. Earlier this year I purchased a second card strip of players I already had a poor example of and noticed that the team number on one was black but the other in the team colour. Is this common?
Also, some strips have a single player (6) with a swept hair style and a tash. Not wishing to mention the war Basil but was this someone's idea of a joke and which teams are printed like this? I have three.
Do all strips show the team number and cut out instructions. I thought some on ebay around the turn of the year appeared to have just team numbers. Thanks once again to Ashley for replying with the picture below. Also notice the lack of a cutting line, not just the wording.
Finally, looking forward I would appreciate pictures of pitches that are a little different to the norm.
